A long-lived, high-energy gamma isotope used for radiography of very thick or dense materials where deep penetration is required.

Co-60 sources deliver very high-energy gamma radiation, making them suitable for heavy-wall steel, large castings and critical components in power generation and heavy industry. Their longer half-life reduces source replacement frequency compared to Ir-192.
